Thornbury 19 -  Dursley 17

A fixture arranged at short notice which gave the opportunity to both teams to rotate their full squads prior to next weeks Gloucester Cup plate matches. The Dursley backs proved to be too much for Thornbury in the first half and scored 17 unanswered points before half time. Thornbury fielded a stronger pack in the second half and gradually wore down the opposition. Tom Evans scored the first try, converted by George Jackson. Jamie Smith the second after some good interplay with Carl Yeates. Sustained pressure on the Dursley line late into the match allowed Sam Bradley to pounce from a wheeled scrum to make the match winning score.

Thornbury 0 - Cleeve 53

A bigger stronger team out muscled and outpaced Thornbury in most aspects of the game. Without too much ball Thornbury had to tackle and defend. This was done admirably on several occasions but Cleeve were on had to turn this to their advantage. Sullivan and Moore made timely tackles and the Thornbury forwards stuck to the fight despite circumstances. There were few opportunities for Thornbury to exploit possession as most was used to relieve pressure and win back lost ground. The scoreline did not reflect the guts and determination shown by the Thornbury players.

Thornbury 15  - Yatton 0

Thornbury got back to winning ways on Sunday with a superb victory against Yatton. The game kick off with Yatton spending the first 10 minutes camped in the Thornbury half but yet again Thornbury defended their line with great determination and kept Yatton out.
Slowly Thornbury started to get back into the match and the game began to see saw from one end to the other. Both packs where evenly matched although Yatton had the edge in loose play. With 10 minutes remaining of the half Thornbury crossed the line only to drop the ball. The pack and the backs continued to work well as a unit and following a scrum inside Yatton's 22 the ball was won by Thornbury passed down the line to Eddie Stevens who popped a pass to Tom Witter who dived over the line in the corner. Shortly afterwards the ref blew for half time with Thornbury leading 5-0.

Welcome Jack. Thornbury's third try soon followed, again good link play between the forwards and backs sent Gavin Edgar away who set up  Rob Garlands second try. At this point it seemed that Thornbury would go on the win comfortably but to Yatton's credit they come strongly but Thornbury held out to win 15-0. Both teams left the pitch to a standing ovation.
As one of Thornbury's coaches remarked this was the best team performance he had witnessed since he first become involved some 8 years ago and that all of the players played there part in this impressive victory.

Thornbury 0  - Bredon Buzzards 36

After the fine victory last week Thornbury come down with a bump against a talented Bredon side. The defeat however was as much to be with the physical size of the opponents as to the Rugby skills. As soon as the game started it became apparent that the strength of Bredon side  would play an important part in the match. The Thornbury pack managed to hold its own but the continued pressure began to take its toll and after 8 minutes Bredon took the lead with a well worked try which was converted. Thornbury defend well but where unable to launch any real attacks. A fine tackle from Tom Moore prevented a second try but seconds later Bredon won a scrum deep into the 22 which resulted in a second try. The game continued to be played in the Thornbury half, with the Thornbury defence managing to hold out until 3 minutes before half time when Bredon scored two quick tries to take the score to 0-26 at half time.
The second half was much more of an even contest with the defence of Thornbury outstanding. There was a period in the second half when Thornbury took the game to their opponents but they were unable to cross the line. Bredon scored two more tries in the second half to take the final score to 0-36.Despite being outplayed Thornbury stuck to the task which again should the spirit an commitment of the squad Thornbury have a chance to get back to winning ways next Sunday with a game away to Yatton

Thornbury under 14's season got off to a great start on Sunday with a win 26-0 against a spirited St. Brendans side. In very wet conditions Thornbury started the game well with the pack scrumming strongly which resulted in a break from Dan Downman, this resulted in a scrum deep into the oppositions 22 where George Jackson was able to pick up and force his way over the try line, the try was converted by Ben Jenkins.
The game continued to be played in the St, Brendans half but despite continued pressure and good defence the score remained 7-0 at half time.
With the advantage of playing down the slope Thornbury began to dominate play and early in the second half Richard Carter increased to score to 12-0 again converted by Jenkins.
After persistent pressure and despite excellent defending Mark Sullivan scored Thornbury's third try to make the score 19-0.Futher link play between the forwards and backs set up a try for debut Gavin Edger which was again converted by Jenkins.
The most pleasing aspect of the game was the overall team spirit and commitment of the squad of 19 players.
